On their latest album Lais are collaborating with Simon Lenski, cello player of DAAU and Prima Donkey. Three voices and the manipulated sounds of the cello create wonderful sounds that could be described as neo-folk, avant-garde classical music or a gregorian soundtrack. They are covering songs by Nico (Desertshore), Shostakovich, Marc Moulin & Dan Lacksman and an American folk traditional. Their voices have become mature, their music has a lot more depth and their appeal is undoubtedly (and more than ever!) universal. On 'Lais Lenski' they are exploring their sound to further limits than ever could be expected.
Now there is a new step: one of the most delicate songs of the album: 'Requiem' was given to international top dj, remixer and Producer CJ Bolland (Magnus, R&S Records ...). He added prominent (Massive Attack-alike) beats to the song, giving it a totally new flow while maintaining the original 'Bjorkish' fragility. Top !

Check out the first single from Suki Love's new album "Static Moves"...the hauntingly beautiful “Choose Your Gods”, which is accompanied by a great clip, containing two bicycles, a girl, her mother and approximately 267 blurry trees.
Static Moves will be released 5th of October 2009 (Sukiloves Records / Bang! / Jezusfactory).
It is the first album to be recorded in Pascal’s own Studio Jezus. With no studio clock ticking, one would expect recording sessions to last forever (or possibly longer), including massive overdubs, meticulously recorded stereo xylophones, the odd violin ensemble and candlelit meditation interludes for the musicians to focus their inner energy.
Actually, it took a mere 14 days and they recorded the whole thing live, leaving only the vocals and an occasional piano to be added later. Each morning, Pascal arrived with some chords & words for the band to arrange and by the end of the day someone pressed ‘record’. The result is an almost-raw and intense collection of songs featuring grainy melodies as well as strange Technicolor dissonance.
This time, labelling might be tricky. From distant moans and mutterings we could salvage the words "childish Gothic", "loud and difficult easy listening", "rusty pop" and our favourite "homo erotic rock without the glitter".
One thing is certain though: never before has Sukilove wandered further from the monochrome set of genre-rules that govern your average pop-album. They’ve achieved that rare and enviable status of becoming their own genre.

The new single from Samir Barris is an acoustic duet with Vanessa Klak (from "Snooze" on Pure FM).
This is of course around a glass that Vanessa Klak slipped the idea of this song, Vanessa and Samir knew each others from school where they were friends...
...but today, they are opponents in this little hymn to the dispute and reconciliation and back!

Bang! is proud to announce that we signed Dez Mona on our label 62TV Records. The band has just finished recording in the famous ICP Studios (see Urban Dance Squad, Indochine, The Cure, White Lies, dEUS, Renaud) with the help of former Talk Talk bassist & producer Paul Webb, aka Rustin Man (who co wrote and produced the soloalbum by Beth Gibbons' of Portishead).
The album was mixed by Phil Delire, who produced or mixed Bashung, Indochine, Lavilliers, Aubert and Nougaro.
The result is an amazingly beautiful album, that will appeal to fans of Anthony & The Johnsons, Nina Simone, Jaques Brel or Gavin Friday. It's due for release after the summer and will be titled ‘Hilfe Kommt’.

The debut CD from Team William contains pure and extremely catchy pop music from the same gold vein MGMT, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah or Vampire Weekend uses for their songs.
The production was lead by Mario Goossens, known from Triggerfinger and his work with The Blackbox Revelation.
The history of this two year old quartet from Ninove and Bruges is a chain of triumphs. Humo’s Rock Rally (bronze), Grote Prijs Der Lage Landen (gold), Fnac Unsigned Music Talents (gold), Oost-Vlaams Rockconcours (bronze).
At the start of 2009, Team William was invited to the international showcase “Canadian Music Week” and Focus Knack voted them to one of the most promising bands of 2009. The hit “Lord Of The Dogs” lives up to these high expectations in every way... You can listen to it this week in our player on the homepage of thisisbang.

Here is the new video for Tortoise's "Prepare Your Coffin", from the new album Beacons of Ancestorship (coming out June 23rd).
You can also download and share the mp3 here.
Directed by Andrew Paynter and JUICE. Pitchfork calls the video, "A beautiful black-and-white meditation on death by-way-of symmetry, architecture, and photography. Meanwhile, the song kills."
Beacons of Ancestorship is Tortoise's sixth album and the band's first since 2004's It's All Around You. Tortoise remains unique in the world of contemporary music for their boundless intellectual curiosity and their unmistakable compositional voice.
Almost alone among bands of the last two decades, Tortoise is a group that resists easy metaphors and analogies, who can be described as sounding like only themselves and no one else. Twenty years after its founding, the band's signature and singularly inimitable sound-a fluid intersection of dub, dance, jazz, techno, rock, and classical minimalism, with no part overwhelming or dominating the whole-remains an American and international original.

Barbie Bangkok has released a new single that entered the playlist of Radio 1 in highest rotation!
It’s a splendid cover of Paul McCartney’s ‘Coming up’ which was already a big success during their concerts.

After decades of success, after having made his mark on the history of music blending influences from Rock and Blues to Soul and Disco, Demis Roussos is back with a killer new album; blues and soul tainted, with a voice to die for ”Back to the roots, back to the tracks.”
His new album ‘Demis’ is an inveterate rocker’s album that calls to mind the legendary hits of his late sixties band ‘Aphrodite’s Child’ (”Rain and Tears,” “It’s Five O’Clock”) as well as the current British rock-soul revival.
Supported by the young musicians of Little Barrie and Dirty Feel, Demis will tour after the summer, kincking with a first concert in September, in Paris’s Grand Rex, followed by a world tour. (from Demi's official website)

Sophia's new album "There Are No Goodbyes" (Flower Shop Recordings) will be in the shops on April 27th and also available in a special limited edition with a bonus disc that includes a concert in Vienna on Valentine’s day.
“It's a sad record. Quite possibly the darkest record I've ever made.” Writes Robin Proper-Sheppard on his website. But this fifth SOPHIA album is possibly the most pop orientated as well. A very consistent and beautiful collection of new songs to listen to from beginning to end. And then again…"

"Known in musical circles as Dogbowl, co-founder of King Missile and now a solo artist, Stephen Tunney also paints and writes. "The Flan", his first novel, similar in content to his songs and artwork, is the literary equivalent of the famous eyeball-slitting scene in the Bunuel film Un Chien Andalou. The post-apocalyptic horror story takes the same perverse, almost juvenile delight in imagery that disgusts and dazzles simultaneously; imagery that at times lends a surreal, poetic beauty to the unspeakable atrocities and grotesque creatures that litter the author's blasted New York City landscape." (OPTION MAGAZINE). This great book by one of our all time favourite musician has just been re-edited by Running Press!

Just for the record, here's a picture of Bang's serie of mugs. We did that very limited edition of cool cups in December 2008 as a Xmas present for our clients, friends, partners,...
The idea was to modify rock/music gimmicks in a way that they now could apply to the idea of drinking hot beverages from a usual office mug. After a very impressive brainstorming we ended up with clever slogans like: "This is the sound of T", "Mugs & Soda", "Smells like Tea Spirit", ... hot stuff, baby, hot stuff.

Quentin Dupieux aka Mr.Oizo is pleasantly insane, we all knew that already. He just made a promoclip explaining the whole making-of "lambs anger" involving a blond, music with salad, yogurt and pineapples.
Strange?
